Paper Two: Slave My True Story In Western culture we are born with the right of autonomy. It is believed that this right can never be taken away from us. We are born into this privilege of liberty and are given opportunities to grow and make our own choices without being oppressed or discouraged for them. We are free, or so we think we are. In the book Slave My True Story by Mende Nazer and Damien Lewis (2003), Mende a 12 year old girl, is stripped of her happiness, childhood and most of all, her freedom. Summary: The book begins by giving a detailed description of the main character, Mende. She speaks about her community and her life as an adored and indulgent child of a loving family. She was seen as nothing but a piece of property. She was no longer referred to as Mende but as â€Å"Yebit,† an Arabic word which means â€Å"female unworthy of a name.† After seven years of life in servitude with this wealthy family, Mende was flown out to London to serve her mistress’s sister. Life in London was no different. Cleaning and cooking is all Mende ever did. She eventually grew sick of it, loosing all sense of hope and considered ending her life. Instead, she had decided she would find a way to escape. Once the holidays came up, her new mistress and her family left to Sudan, leaving her to stay with the families friends. This was her chance to escape. Having no knowledge of the English language she approached anyone who had seemed to speak Arabic. After several attempts, she was able to contact a man whom she had found in a garage pumping tires. Mende was able to explain to him how she had been abducted and forced into slavery. He told her he knew another Nuba man living in London and would help her escape. After developing a plan for her escape she follows through and is able to flee away quickly from this dreadful place. As the book comes to an end Mende goes on to describe life as a Refugee living in London. She explains how she was frightened, she did not know how to do things for herself. The Salem Witch Trials show a lot about how this world’s beliefs grew and developed in early America and Europe. Much of the prosecution of witches started because of the Roman Catholic Church; they created the belief of witches that led to the Salem Witch Trials. The Trials in Salem were a time when the people were scared of magic and what it could do, that led to the deaths of multiple people. The McCarthy Trials also show a resemblance to the witch trials in Salem as the idea of what happened was similar. All the ideas that were used then can be found in America through some way shape or form. That leads to the idea that people have always worried about the unknown, and people always want a scapegoat, that is evident from the medieval times to the Salem Witch Trials and even to the McCarthy witch-hunts. In Salem a young group of girls claimed to be possessed by the devil. However, unbeknownst to them, was most likely a toxin or â€Å"sickness that is found in rye and wheat that causes vomiting, muscle spasms, and delusion†(Salem Witch Trials). They blamed it on witchcraft and on the local women who allegedly practiced it. The girls blaming these women is what started the infamous Salem Witch Trials in the spring of 1692. Famous graphic designers and illustrators Free Essays

The most recognized and famous graphic designers and Illustrators are from the US and different countries from Europe, but what about the graphic designers from the Philippines. Kate Morose a famous British artist, and Wham Abaca a Philippine artist who Is not so famous. Two artists that are very good designers and both use pop art and contemporary. The two illustrators, we just mention, their style is like pop art, with a lot of color and a lot of shapes. Kate Morose use words, with funny letters that make a massage. Wham Abaca, also give us a massage like every artist do, but he just work with images and some time a couple of words. The big difference between this to great artist, are that Skate’s work is softer and Wham is most grotesque. Even with this big different, both are good designers that make their ideas flow in their works and looks garish. Skate’s and Wham’s designs blow up with colors. Kate uses more colors that Wham, she almost use the entire color palette in Just one design and it not looks heavy. But even if Wham is working Just with specific color, all their work is colorful and looks bright. Both make the people turn to see their work, because the bright colors attract their attention. It is difficult to make a good design with a lot of colors, because you have to choose the right tone and make a good contrast when you put them together. Kate and Wham have made a very good Job with that. As you can see in the pictures, both artists try to give massages using their own style and giving life to whatever they want to transmit. Kate gave us very clear what she wants to said, because she uses words, and the words are easy to read. Wham’s works Is more like â€Å"one picture tells us more than a thousand words†, because he do not use a lot of words, sometime non. But some of Skate’s designs the words are difficult to read and the Wham’s pictures are difficult to make a clear message. Even o both reflect their free mind and creatively very well, but not all the people can make a clear message from their creations. As we could saw, designs from a Philippine It Is as well from designs from someone of England. Wham has a unique style, kind pop art, but he put his own touch. He knows how to combine the colors and make them look very attractive, making his wants to give a message, which reflects his thinking. Even if it is look a little bit strange and scary.
